The Center for Child Evaluation and Teaching was established in 1984 through the efforts of a group of Kuwaiti women who discovered that their children were experiencing Specific Learning Disabilities. At the time, local resources and professional guidance were limited, prompting these families to seek assessment and support in the United Kingdom and the United States, where diagnostic services and appropriate educational programs were available.
Recognizing the urgent need for a specialized center in Kuwait, this group envisioned an organization dedicated to the assessment and educational intervention of children with Specific Learning Disabilities—also referred to as learning difficulties, learning impairments, or learning differences. Based on this vision, the Center was founded and officially registered as a non-profit organization in the Shuwaikh area, with the support of family members and friends, to serve children with Specific Learning Disabilities.
The Center began its operations in 1984 in Shuwaikh and continued to provide its services there for approximately 23 years. At the start of the 2006–2007 academic year, the Center relocated to its new purpose-built facility in the Surra area.
The new Center building was constructed entirely through donations from individuals who believed in the importance of the Center’s mission. Since its establishment, the Center has maintained a clear commitment to ensuring that its services extend beyond supporting individuals with Specific Learning Disabilities to also include their families, teachers, and related professionals, with the goal of overcoming the challenges associated with learning disabilities through informed, collaborative, and science-based approaches.
